Healthy 7 Meals
Challenge & Strategic Approach
Challenge
Healthy7 was not starting from scratch.
The business already had an established customer base, proven services, and digital equity built across two existing websites. The opportunity was to bring those foundations together while creating a platform capable of supporting a much broader vision for the business.
The challenge wasn’t starting over. It was bringing years of proven business, existing digital equity, and an expanding wellness vision into one platform – without losing what was already working.
Strategy
What began as an e-commerce redesign gradually became a much larger systems project. As the business model evolved, the original scope expanded from approximately 16 pages to more than 35 customized pages and experiences, spanning meal plans, individual meal ordering, subscriptions, wellness products, consultations, workshops, events, and loyalty.
Rather than forcing these different services into a conventional Shopify structure, the platform was shaped around how the business actually operates.
That meant designing different customer journeys where they were needed, connecting them through a consistent experience, and introducing custom functionality when standard solutions could not adequately support the underlying business logic.
The goal was not complexity for its own sake. It was to make a complex business feel simpler to use.
Designing Around the Business, Not the Template for a Wellness E-commerce
A platform becomes more valuable when its structure reflects the business behind it.
Throughout the project, decisions were made around operational needs, customer behaviour, and long-term flexibility rather than the limitations of a particular theme or app.
This meant evaluating where existing Shopify functionality was sufficient, where third-party tools added genuine value, and where custom development was justified.
What Guided the Work
- Business logic before platform conventions
- Custom development where it creates meaningful operational value
- Automation designed to reduce repetitive manual work
- Clear customer journeys across different products and services
- Consistent brand and user experience throughout the platform
- Preservation of existing digital equity during transition
As requirements evolved, the platform evolved with them.
Results in Custom E-commerce Development
The new Healthy7 platform is now live, bringing two previously separate digital properties into one connected ecosystem.
Meals, subscriptions, wellness products, consultations, workshops, events, and loyalty can now exist within a shared customer experience while retaining the different purchasing journeys each part of the business requires.
The transition also extended beyond the new website itself. Existing traffic and customer pathways were carefully carried into the new platform through approximately 20 strategically placed calls-to-action and nearly 100 permanent redirects, helping preserve continuity as the two previous websites moved into a single digital home.
The result is less an endpoint than a new operating foundation – one designed to preserve what the business had already built while giving its next stage considerably more room to grow.
Behind the Scenes
Bringing Two Digital Ecosystems Into One
A successful website transition is not simply a matter of replacing old pages with new ones.
Healthy7 required two existing digital properties to converge into a single platform while maintaining useful customer pathways and established search equity. Redirect planning, cross-site calls-to-action, and transition architecture helped guide existing audiences toward the new ecosystem without treating the launch as a clean slate.
When Standard Shopify Wasn’t Enough
Some business models fit neatly into standard e-commerce structures. Others require the platform to adapt.
Healthy7’s individual meal ordering experience introduced requirements that conventional Shopify functionality and standard meal-ordering applications could not fully accommodate alongside subscriptions, group pricing, events, and other existing systems.
Rather than allowing the available technology to dictate the customer experience, different approaches were evaluated before custom functionality was introduced where necessary.
Automation Without Passing Complexity to the Customer
Behind a simple ordering experience can sit a surprisingly complex set of operational rules.
Meal selection, recurring orders, event registration, consultations, loyalty, product recommendations, and different purchasing models all needed to coexist without making customers navigate the complexity behind them.
The objective was therefore not simply automation, but thoughtful automation: reducing repetitive operational work while keeping the customer-facing experience clear.
Designing for Real-World Customer Behaviour
A platform is rarely finished when the development checklist is complete.
As the ordering experience took shape, details including mobile typography, spacing, purchase options, delivery messaging, cart recommendations, calls-to-action, and checkout flow were refined around how customers would actually move through the site.
Small decisions across the journey collectively shape how easily a customer can understand an offer, make a choice, and complete an order.
